Ergonomics are the scientific study of the interactions between the environment (notably the working conditions) and man in order to improve his well-being and effectiveness by adapting the first one to the second one.
So a chair is not ergonomic itself, but will be so under given working conditions, because it will enable the user to carry out his work better.
